Longpi pottery is a long practiced craft in the Ukhrul region of Manipur in India and is said to have been handed down from the Neolithic period. Serpentine stone is ground down to a fine powder and mixed in with river clay, to create a luminous black amalgam which is then shaped by hand, dried and baked to create unique stoneware used by locals to serve and cook.
